Nobody's Hero / 100th Post!

I have never done wiring in my life. And yet, Spock's mom, Moose, trusted me to wire the chandelier that she bought for her new house. I suppose, given that there were no directions to follow in the first place, I did a pretty bang-up job. It works, after all. And we only had to rewire it a few times. Moose's friend from work was helping us along, but he didn't know how to wire the thing either. So I wired it, we wired it into the main power, and... nothing happened. After taking it apart and checking connections, we tried again.. nothing. Then, the guy realizes he told me the wrong way to wire it. I took the entire thing apart, rewired EVERYTHING, and then, and only then, it worked. Oh, that glorious chandelier finally worked!
So, Spock and I went back to my house to watch my sisters, because my parents went out to meet a friend of Severe's and his wife for dinner. They couldn't have been gone more than five minutes when Severe called, and told me to jump in the car and meet them, in the dark, on the side of a road about a mile away. Mama Bear, valiantly trying to avoid killing a dog, still managed to clip the beast, and while the dog lived, her van didn't fare so well. There is a gaping hole in one side, and to top it off, she also got stuck in a ditch. We used my itty bitty Plymouth to pull a minivan out of a ditch. It was so epic.

I am happy to announce that this is my ONE HUNDREDTH POST! To celebrate, I will be doing a Top 102 List. It's going to be time-consuming, lengthy, and freakin' awesome!

Bah Humbug

Call me a Grinch, or a Scrooge, or even a green llama, but I hate Christmas. I'm pretty sure that I've felt this way since I was eleven, when, in a temporary lapse of parental judgment, my mother spilled the beans to me about Santa Claus, three days before Christmas. She also told me about all the other mythological creatures that I was brought up to believe in: the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, St. Nicholas, etc. I know that Santa Claus and his rampant gift-giving are not meant to be the true meaning of Christmas, but it was a disappointment that I haven't forgotten in eight years, and probably still won't forget for a while. In fact, it makes me unsure as to whether or not I should tell my children, whenever I have them, about jolly ol' St. Nick and his ilk. In my pre-familial, teen-aged mind, it doesn't seem fair that parents can lie to their children, in the "spirit" of Christmas and various other holidays and occurrences, while children are never allowed to lie to their parents, for any reason at all. It's a trust-breaker. Sure, my parents have done other things that have shattered my trust in them, but I choose to bring this one up for the sake of so-called Christmas spirit.
Therefore, I offer up this list of different December holidays, many of which having nothing to do with Santa, or any other mythological figure.

Epic Fail: Civil War Reenactment Edition

Yesterday night, Spock and his family took me to a Civil War ball. They had taken me to a previous one in February, on Abraham Lincoln's birthday. We dressed up in period outfits, and Spock went as Honest Abe himself, after I sprayed his beard and hair with temporary dye. We found something important out at this dance, however. After a group dance, a bunch of ladies, flouncy skirts bouncing everywhere, came up to me and practically shoved me out the door. They asked my name, and told me what they were about to do was for my own good. They took me to a dark corner... and proceeded to inform me that I had been wearing my dress backwards. So, rather than viciously molesting me, which is what I had feared, they helped me flip my dress so that it faced the right way. It was scary, to say the least, but they were nice ladies, and they didn't attack me, so all was well.
Also, at the dance was a re-enacter who looked a great deal like Zachary Quinto, the total babe who plays Spock in the new Star Trek movie. Yes, my Spock and I have seen it; we went to the theater twice. I danced with the doppelganger a few times, but I didn't manage to get a clear picture of him. However, I had a blast, and I will put up some pictures. As soon as my blisters go away, maybe.
